I see this happen a lot. Someone works hard, goes the extra mile, delivers something big… and the recognition comes much later.

By then, the excitement is gone. The person has already moved on to the next task. That late “thank you” feels like an afterthought, not appreciation.

And honestly, it hurts. Because recognition is such a powerful motivator but only when it comes at the right time.

Here’s what I have learned:
🙌 Teams thrive when they feel seen
🙌 They want to know their work matters in the moment
🙌 Without timely acknowledgment, motivation fades and trust erodes

That’s why I make it a rule for myself:
👉 Never hold back a good word.
👉 Don’t wait for a formal stage or annual review.
👉 Appreciate in the moment.

For leaders and upcoming leaders:
✨ Be specific – Don’t just say “great job.” Call out what they did and why it mattered.
✨ Be timely – Recognition is fuel, not dessert. If you save it for later, the impact is lost.
✨ Make it visible – Share it in team meetings, channels, or public forums. Recognition spreads energy.

When done right, recognition:
✔️ Boosts confidence instantly
✔️ Builds trust between leaders and teams
✔️ Creates a culture where people feel valued and want to give their best

Recognition is not a perk or a nice-to-have.
It’s a core leadership behaviour.
So don’t wait.
Recognize today, because tomorrow might be too late.
